University of Bridgeport Awarded $2.25 Million Grant from the U.S. Department of Education to Support Student Outcomes
Bridgeport, CT (11/28/2023) — University of Bridgeport is proud to announce it has been awarded a substantial grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Strengthening Institutions Program. The grant, totaling $2,245,987, spans a five-year period from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2028, and is designated to propel the transformative project, "UB Supporting the Educational Efforts of Students" (UB SEES). The federal grant supports 85% of the total costs of the UB SEES project. The remaining 15% will be covered by the University.
The primary objective of UB SEES is to fortify the educational journey of undergraduate students at University of Bridgeport, addressing key challenges and enhancing the overall academic experience. This comprehensive initiative is strategically designed to boost retention and graduation rates, ensuring that students persist through their college years and emerge with the skills and knowledge needed for meaningful employment.
Key components of the UB SEES project include:
- Expanded career development programs
- Financial literacy programs
- Faculty training on University Design for Learning (UDL)
- Technology enhancement
With this grant, University of Bridgeport will enrich the student experience by broadening its career development services, empowering students with the skills necessary to manage their finances, and investing in cutting-edge technological equipment. The grant will also allow UB to support faculty development by offering opportunities to learn and implement UDL-based teaching strategies, which aim to deliver effective instruction that breaks down barriers to learning by addressing individual students' needs.
Danielle Wilken, Ed.D., President of University of Bridgeport, expressed enthusiasm about the impact of the Strengthening Institutions grant. "This significant grant reflects our commitment to student success and academic excellence. UB SEES will play a pivotal role in not only retaining students but also ensuring they graduate with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers in their chosen fields."
University of Bridgeport extends its gratitude to the U.S. Department of Education for their confidence in the US SEES project and their continued support of higher education initiatives. To learn more about University of Bridgeport visit, www.bridgeport.edu
